Which Way to Go?

I must admit, my geography is really poor. I’ve been living here in the U.S. for 14 months now, but I still get confused on what street we are on or where to turn whenever we go downtown. I am not the one driving, but still, I know I should start paying attention so I can go wherever I want, whenever I want, as soon as I get my driver’s license.

Well, I know I can always get me a tom tom gps to help me with my navigation or as I always tell my husband, why not just get me a driver so I don’t have to deal with learning how to drive and all that stuff. LOL. I still am afraid of those big trucks on the highway, but I do believe I will overcome this fear as soon as I hit the road by myself. Wish me the bestest of luck!

Where’s My Snow At?

This winter has been really mild compared to last year. We haven’t had a heavy snow yet since the season started. We’ve only had flurries a few times and I do wonder when we will get a real snow or if we will even have one. But it has been cold some, of course, though we’ve had many spring-like days.

We are in the 30’s today and at this moment, I am kind of freezing. I will be taking a hot shower in a while and how I wish we had a hot tub so I could lie there feeling warm and relaxed. But it’s out of the budget and I guess all we can afford is a hot tub cover. LOL. It doesn’t really matter, for as long as we have hot water, that’s more than enough for me.

Love is Everywhere This Time of Year

I went out with my good friend Carol last week and it made me nostalgic because it was this time last year when we went shopping for the things that I needed for my wedding. There were many Valentine’s Day gift ideas everywhere which also abound at this time of year. I actually bought some of them to use for the wedding since our wedding was in February. That was too perfect.

I did remember about browsing for bridesmaid gift ideas too, though it was intended for my maid of honor which is my stepdaughter. Remembering those things really delighted me. Such a nice time to reminisce.

He’s Got the Music in Him!

My husband is such a music lover that he actually collected an enormous amount of music CDs and he still has all his long play vinyl albums from when he was a teenager. And all throughout the years, he’s managed to take good care of his collection and they are still here in the house neatly arranged in the shelves. I was amazed the first time I saw them.

In addition, he still has his record player as well as the matching speakers; they’re over 40 years old. So just imagine how old they look. But just like the CDs and long play albums, they are still good to go. But you know what? I am actually thinking of buying him new set of bookshelf speakers, but though I am a music lover, I have no idea which bookshelf speakers are the best to get. Got any idea?

My husband is a big fan of the band Pink Floyd. I haven't listened to any of their songs until the time that he introduced them to me. At first I thought they're a hard rock band, but I was wrong. And the first time that I listened to their songs, I liked them instantly. And you know what? My son is so into them now too. Whenever we go somewhere, it's the Pink Floyd's CD that is playing on the car's CD player. Listen to this one. Really nice!

Just like last year which was our first Christmas here in the land of Uncle Sam, the little one had a blast once again on Christmas Eve. He received gifts galore from my husband's family and oh boy, did it make his night. Just as he had on his wishlist, he got boxes of Lego plus Transformer toys, a domino set, books and clothes.

More Lego to add to his collection.

The hat he was wearing was a gift from my SIL and it came with that striped sweater that's partly seen on the bottom left corner of the photo.

And there's a robot that he just installed. That blue one lying on the floor. (",)

I’m Itching to Get a Job!

I was watching the news yesterday which I make a point to do every day and I was happy to see that the city government held a Job Fair once again. I was thinking there were not enough jobs out there because of the shape of the economy.

I wonder what jobs they’ve got because they didn’t mention anything, but the location of the fair. Orthodontist Jobs perhaps, or office jobs?I will be looking for job soon and I am hoping they will have another Job Fair. I know I can look online, but a Job Fair would be a big help too.

One of the Christmas traditions that I look forward to every year is the opening of gifts, but not just for myself. I must admit, though, that I enjoy opening my gifts, but it’s seeing my loved ones delighted faces that excites me the most.

And this year, I got to see the delight on my husband and my son’s faces once more. They really both love the gifts that I got them which made me so happy. The husband and I give the little one the things that he put on his Christmas list. The husband didn’t make a list, but I do know what to give him. It wasn’t one of those garden gifts, but another thing which is equally useful.

Cold Doesn’t Bother Mountain Boys

It’s been really cold lately. The temperature dropped from the 60’s to the 40’s. it’s not something surprising though since winter is just around the corner. But what really surprised me was seeing those motorcycles roaming the highway even in such cold weather.

We've seen some of them on Saturday when we went grocery shopping. I know they probably were wearing heated motorcycle clothing, but how about their faces? They weren’t covered at all! I would probably freeze if I was riding with them. LOL. Well, they’re tough guys and they’re used to it.

Every Woman’s Dream: A Shopping Day!

The husband didn’t have work today because his factory is having its inventory for the year. With that, we took the opportunity of shopping for the little one’s Christmas presents. He is in school so it is certainly the best time for us to go shopping.

Aside from that, we also looked for home decors because I really want to give the master bedroom a “facelift”. We haven’t bought them yet because we still have places that we have to check before deciding what to get. How I wish we could also add a home theatre system inside the room. Having a student is fun and fulfilling since you get to know your kids better, and knowing that they’re doing good in school is like a gift that is priceless. But there are times of pressure too, especially when the school year starts and you need to provide all their needs. I do know because there were four kids in my family and I saw how my parents did their best to cope with us and our school needs from grade school until we went to college.

At present, it’s my turn to have a student. Good thing I only have one. He is in third grade now and though he is the only one and we’ve never had difficulty in sending him to school, I still always choose to be frugal as much as I can like using discount school supply coupons for his things as well as looking for sales too when it comes to his other needs. But no matter what, my son is worth every penny spent because he is in the Honor Roll! Yeah!

Don’t Let the Words Fool You

Do you know what a skid steer is? I had to go back and read again because the first time I saw the words, I thought it was referring to Skid Row which is of course a name of an artist. But no, it is actually a loader.

What can I say? I am not into construction or anything. And I am a woman too. Talk to me about clothes, bags and shoes and I can pretty well relate. LOL.But anyway, I was glad to have stumbled upon it today. At least I’ve learned something new.

Halloween Bones Were Rattling

Last night’s trick or treatin’ was really fun. It was mine and my son’s first because celebrating Halloween is really not big in my home country compared here in the U.S. It was our first time to wear costumes too.

My son was the ‘Prince of Persia’ and I wore a skeleton costume that they found funny. Some of them even kidded that my husband is probably not feeding me good and that was why all that was left of me was bones. That was such a funny t-shirt that I wore indeed. It also came with shorts that was showing my thigh bones. Really cool!

European Glass Ornament

This is the ornament that I won when I joined The Grove Park Inn's trivia on Facebook. This hotel is one of the best hotels that we have here in the city. I am a fan of their Facebook page thus, I get their updates.

I've been reading about their trivia, but it was only in September that I thought of joining after reading the question pertaining to our former President. I had no idea about it actually, but since they mentioned Southeast Asian President, it got me into researching. The question was where was this President from. I answered... My country, the Philippines.

I didn't expect to win because there were about 80 people who joined. Only 6 were selected and I was so surprised and delighted to be among them. Not to mention, the winners were announced on Facebook on the day of my birthday. Awesome really!!!

And was kept inside this pretty red box.

This card came with the ornament. It tells about the ornament and the other side tells about the hotel.

I can't wait to start decorating for Christmas because this will surely be hanging in the Christmas tree.

I searched for a song on YouTube and this song was one among the many that popped up. I love the song in the 80's. It is actually my favorite era, and this song made me so nostalgic. But it is a long story and I can't make it short. LOL.

I find the kobo wireless ereader, the nook or even kindle really neat. You can download all the books that you like so it is like having many books in one.

I even told the husband about it since he is a bookworm. He reads everyday and even reads himself to sleep.But you know what his reply was? The electronic gadget doesn’t have the feel that a book has. He likes holding a book and the smell of the paper.

Well, for as long as it is what he wants, then so be it. I know what I want, and it’s not a book. Teehee.

My husband definitely knows how to tickle my fancy and how to make me smile when he is sorry. Giving me a bar of chocolate is all it takes because it is certainly one of my weaknesses. But I am wishing that he will see those coated berries and would say, “Next time,I'll make it up to with these.” They really look delicious and enticing.

Maybe the best thing to do is give him the name of the website, huh? But I need to make him think it was his own idea. Hmmm, maybe I will give him a hint, a hint that will make sure he gets the message.

Our Halloween Costumes

This year's Halloween will be mine and my son's first celebration of Halloween here in the U.S. Though it is celebrated by many in my home country, it wasn't really that BIG there as compared here where kids and adults really wear costumes and go trick or treatin'.

Our neighbors usually celebrate their Halloween by trick or treatin' on this street at the west part of the city. They invited us to come along with them so, I ordered Halloween costumes for the three of us. I've learned about the costume website from my SIL's younger sis. Glad she did tell me about it because the site was on sale. That being said, I got a great deal for the three costumes.

I don't want a sexy costume so I got the 'Chloe Bone' from the teens category. LOL. My husband will be 'JotlahHex' and my son will be the 'Prince of Persia'.

A Gift For Myself

We went to our jeweler last weekend to have my necklace resized. It is a necklace with my name on it. I bought it online as a birthday gift to myself. I couldn’t resist the great deal because they had a sale for almost everything at their site including steel rings, earrings, bracelets, etc. If you had seen the deal, I’ll bet, you couldn’t resist it either.

I really love the necklace, but it was way too long; my name was hidden underneath my top whenever I wore it. So, it needed to be cut. We will get it back later this week and I can’t wait to wear it!

Being a fan of the baseball team, Atlanta Braves for years, my husband got my son into watching the game too and really loving the Braves. This bag says it all. He wanted a backpack for school that has the Atlanta Braves logo in it. It took me a while searching because even though I've seen some with the Braves' logo, I didn't like the design. I was so glad when I found this on eBay. This one is simply perfect!

The color is perfect too because it's my son's favorite color. And I definitely love the design with the pockets and all. And having been manufactured from a famous brand, I know I will never go wrong.

I was also surprised when I saw the tag. It's made in the Philippines - my home country! But the seller is from Virginia. Isn't that ironic? (",)

It’s Almost Spooky Time

I finally got to order Halloween costumes yesterday. I had been looking, but I hadn’t seen any that I liked. My SIL’s younger sis told me the store where she bought hers. They have a website and that’s what kept me busy yesterday, browsing for Halloween costumes for the three of us - my husband, my son and I. I already had chosen the ones that I liked in the morning, but I waited for them before I ordered because I was afraid they might not like what I picked. I’m glad they liked them! More so, the costumes were on sale so we got a great deal! Yeah!

But before finally choosing the one for me, I had questions that I wanted to ask and how I wish I was in a real store facing a help desk specialist so I could get my answers pronto but, unfortunately, it was impossible. There are Help Desk Specialist Jobs out there, but no help desk specialist in online stores. Or maybe there is one that I overlooked. Or is it possible? Let me check again.

I was browsing online when I came across this article about a celebrity who lost so much weight to the point that she looked like she was ill. People were already having this notion that she was either ill or she's doing drugs.

It really makes me wonder why people who are famous and rich get into such troubles. They’ve already got everything that most people can only wish for, and yet they ruin their lives by indulging in the dark side of fame. I know there are rehab centers like malibu rehab treatment center that can help them, but isn’t it that prevention is better than cure?

I really hope people will realize that it’s not the answer to their problems and look more into how beautiful life is when lived the right way.

I was supposed to do the laundry today, but the cold weather just made me lazy. My day was most of the time spent in front of the computer browsing, online ‘window shopping’ and playing. Fall is just around the corner, hence the ‘window shopping’. Both my son and I need sweaters and thermal wear.

We’ve Been Busy Little Bees

The previous couple of weeks have been busy for us. We had party invitations left and right and we also started processing mine and my son’s documents so we had an appointment with our lawyer for the second time in the past couple of weeks.

We traveled again to that part of the city where traffic is always jammed up because that is where all the tall steel buildings are and where all the professionals have their offices - doctors, lawyers, engineers, architects, etc. Name it; you can find any professional that you need in that part of the city.

We dealt with the traffic well, though. It’s not really that bad for me. And I would still go back there even if I don’t have an appointment with any professional. You want to know why? Because I have seen a few clothing boutiques there. So, need I say more?

Work Burns Off My Fat

A New Mommy

I called my good friend today just to check on how she’s been doing. It has been two weeks since she gave birth and though she is still in the recovery stage, her voice already sounds chirpy even though her sleeping hours are a mess because of the baby.

I heard the baby cry while we were talking and I kept on hearing her five-year-old son shouting and having a good time while playing his xbox kinect.

It was really nice talking to her again and knowing she surpassed the ordeal of giving birth. I’ve already seen the baby in her pictures and she is such a cutie. I can’t wait to see and hold her. Soon…

My mom has been battling about losing weight for years. She did lose weight with the formula that she has been taking, but it came to a point that she’s not losing weight anymore. She reached the yo-yo point where she’d lose a little and gain again, and so on.

I have small feet, size 5' to be exact and it is hard for me to find shoes of my size here. More often than not, the smallest size is 6. A few more days to go and it is back to school again. Where did summer go? Oh boy! My son will be in third grade this year and he sure is looking forward to seeing his classmates again. My New Ballet Shoes

This is perhaps the most comfortable shoes that I've gotten for myself, so far. When we were still planning for our trip to Washington, D.C., I knew I would need to have me a pair of comfortable walking shoes because there is no doubt we will do a lot of walking. And I wasn't wrong. We walked for hours, but this pair of shoes never gave me any single problem at all. It is made of soft and delicate cloth, thus, it was so comfy to wear.

School Days Ahead

Our day was spent shopping for the little one’s school things. We also bought him new clothes because the schools here have no uniform and he needed to have more clothes. Now, he is ready for classes to begin. He is vocal about being excited to see his classmates again and ride the school bus.

His Back Aint Back in Shape Yet

I got to see our good friend, Carol, again today, and I was sad to have found out that her husband is not in good condition. He can’t stand and it is because of an injured lower back. I did know he injured his back, but I never thought it got worse. I actually thought he had already recovered.

If he will get worse, their next option is to take him to the hospital. Hearing that put me back in time when my husband was in the ICU back home with all that medical equipment attached to his body. I actually remember one medical unit called bovie that one of the nurses mentioned.

I am really hoping and praying Carol’s husband will be okay soon.

I Long to Be On the Road in Comfort

Our neighbor’s travel trailer is now parked in our front yard. My husband’s stepson parked it there for the meantime because he’s been doing some work on the place where it was originally parked. It hasn’t been there for long, though; he put it there after they arrived home from their camping trip last weekend.

I really want to have one of those or better yet, a motor home. It would be nice to travel while laying down on the bed watching your favorite show on TV or perhaps listening to your fave music. I know there will be no hassle in case there will be problems along the way because you can always get a motorhome repair.

I wonder when will I finally get to shop for that dream motor home. Someday, I hope.

He Continues to Puff Away

I really want the husband to stop smoking totally, but I know it is not that simple. He’s trying to cut if off little by little though which makes me glad because at least, he is really trying. I don’t make a big fuss about it anymore like I used to. I often kid him around about it actually.

Just this morning while we were at the mall, I saw an array of cheyenne cigars in a cigar shop and I told him, “For a change, why don’t you switch to cigars, Honey?” And as always, he was amused with me. Sometimes I will grab his cigarette from him and pretend like I am smoking, and I asked him wouldn’t I look sexy smoking a cigar…LOL!

I am making things easier and lighter on him. He’s not quit yet, but at least I see him making the effort.

He Has to Have His Talking Head Fix

We have a satellite dish here at home for our television viewing, but the bad thing about it is the signal is interrupted whenever there’s rain. I really have no problem with it since I really don’t watch television much, but it pisses the husband, most especially if his favorite talk show is on.

He already thought of asking people what’s the best way to have an uninterrupted viewing, but his time hasn’t allowed him yet. He did read about digital antennas that he saw online, but I don’t know yet if he will resort to that. Maybe he is still weighing things out because I haven’t heard him utter a word about it.

A Father’s Day Surprise For Him, Maybe?

Normally, I would only have a cup of coffee a day and that’s when the time I get up in the morning. I do have a second cup sometimes, but today, I had three - two cups in the early morning and an additional cup in the mid-morning. That wasn’t the first time that it’s happened though, but it seldom happens. I don’t know why. I was just craving for another cup after I had my breakfast.

And I am actually craving for espresso coffee now. I tried it once with the husband when we were in a coffee shop back in my home country and though I prefer my coffee with sugar and cream, I kind of liked the espresso. And because of that thinking, guess what I am doing now? I am reading Breville Espresso Maker Reviews. Maybe getting an espresso maker would be a good idea, huh? The husband would surely agree, no doubt.
