As a rule of thumb, my fiancé is a safe driver. He is very proud of his driving history over the past couple of decades. There was a time, however, in his younger years when he was as he likes to say, "Hell on wheels!" At one time, he owned a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner (can you say "Beep Beep?") and it topped out at 150 MPH on the speedometer, which he claims it would actually do. Sounds scary to me, but boys will be boys, especially when they play with their big-boy toys.
And even now, he admits to sometimes putting the pedal to the metal, especially when he and his friend make their yearly road trip to New York City, his friends' place of birth. From their home in North Carolina it takes 13 hours to make the trip, traveling through six states before they reach the Big Apple. They take turns behind the wheel, two-hour shifts, and it's wide open all the way. That is why his friend has seen to it that he has the
best radar detector available, seeing that the Smokey Bears in Tennessee, Virginia and New Jersey are extra vigilant in monitoring speeds, especially those of out-of-state drivers. Considering the cost of a speeding ticket, fines and court costs, as well as being on your automobile insurance for three years, the cost of a hi-tech detector is negligible. And it's equally important that it be a hi-tech device since all law enforcement have went hi-tech, themselves, using Ka and laser speed gun devices.
Oh well, as I said, boys will be boys, even if they are grown-up men. But I hope from here on out, especially once we're finally together and wedded as man and wife, my honey will consider "me" his big boy toy and no longer have the need of speed to get his thrills. (",)
