Short animation

This is a sponsored guest post written by Matt Kelland on behalf of Moviestorm. Post powered by Sponzai.

Moviestorm is enabling a new generation of amateur film-makers to realize their visions. It offers easy, affordable animation tools that can produce sophisticated high-quality films on practically no budget. After several years in development, Moviestorm has demonstrated that home movie-making needn’t be limited to cheap hand-held cameras and clips of the kids goofing around. Its virtual movie studio allows users to break free of the limitations of the real world, and allows them to direct, film, edit and distribute 3D animated movies without any knowledge of animation techniques or 3D modelling. And best of all, it's free, and comes without any copyright restrictions.

Iain Friar, known as IceAxe, is one of Moviestorm’s many successful film-makers. His short film, Clockwork, a dystopian vision of a totalitarian Britain after a Soviet invasion in the 1980s, is winning accolades and awards around the world, most recently the audience prize at the Atopic Festival in France and the Grand Prize at the Machinima Expo. Clearly influenced by both 1984 and A Clockwork Orange, with a visual style that evokes both Communist era propaganda posters and more recent animated movies such as A Scanner Darkly, it is a stark, powerful film that belies its modest origins.

Iain, who's 42, works in marketing, and started making movies just 18 months ago. “I’ve always been a hands-on person, in music, sport, and everything else,” he says. “I thought it would be fun to shoot a music video, but I’m not the most technical of people, and it seemed extraordinarily hard. I remember when computer games started using in-game animation to tell the story instead of video clips, and this interested me, especially now that game technology has become so sophisticated. So I bought a book, Machinima for Dummies, which had Moviestorm on the CD, and I was hooked. I liked Moviestorm because it did what I was looking for, even though I didn’t really know what I was looking for at the time, and the Moviestorm community was very supportive. I initially made comedies, but I could see that the movies people respected were more dramatic, so it seemed that was the direction to go in.”

He spent four months working on Clockwork, and then the same again on his next short, Cloud Angel, a steampunk thriller set on board an airship. Apart from the voice acting, he made the entire film himself at his home in Basingstoke, England. “I'm lucky that my friends are so willing to step up to the mike and read my silly scripts!” he laughs. His next film is Gridlock, a science fiction comedy which he is co-producing with another successful Moviestorm director, James Thorpe. For this, they’ve stepped up the production costs a notch: they hired a recording studio and got the local amateur dramatic group to do the voice acting.

Iain is realistic about his future, though. “Am I ambitious? Yes. Do I want to keep it as just a hobby? Well, probably yes, because I imagine that if it became a full time activity, the fun might go out of it. I make movies as escapism. That said, I think that this industry would be really interesting to work in, because it's embryonic; I'm not sure what direction it will go in. It's exciting!”

Moviestorm’s CEO, Jeff Zie, is hugely enthusiastic and supportive. “Iain and the many other Moviestorm users are an inspiration to us all,” he says. “We’re really proud that we’re giving talented people like this the tools they need to unleash the creative potential they never knew they had, and to produce these wonderful films.”

Try it and see!

You can download Moviestorm for free: Windows and Mac versions are available. If you want, you can expand your virtual film studio and buy extra costumes, sets, props, and sounds in their marketplace. If you've ever wondered whether you might be the next Tarantino, Ang Lee, or J J Abrams, now's the time to find out!

Bag More Bargains

Keeping our self beautiful and presentable is every woman's goal. Though our preferences differ from the different beauty products sold in the market, still we have the same goal. And though some just don't mind the expenses they get themselves into when it comes to those beauty products, some would also prefer getting it on great deals. And if you belong to the latter group, check these tips so you can save.

If your beauty receipts could use a little downsizing, keep these tips in mind next time you stock up on your basics.
Lipstick. Conserve product by coating only your lower lip with a high-pigment lippy. Press your mouth together to transfer color to the top. You'll get twice as many applications.

Foundation. A moisturizing mousse formula smooths dry skin and goes on evenly, so you can apply less overall.

Mascara. Go for a waterproof formula that won't rub off or smudge (so you won't need to redo). Screw on the cap tightly to prevent air from drying it out.

Body Wash. Buy a larger size (which will end up saving you a few bucks), or get a formula that does double-duty and lathers up easily so you only need a little.

Here Comes The Bride

The months of June and December are the months that many couples tie the knot. That’s here in our country, though I know many Brides around the world love to be called a “June Bride.” I don’t really understand the concept of it, but maybe starting a new life together at summer’s beginning is a symbolic reason. And December being a season of joy because of the holidays, couples probably love the spirit the season brings.

My brother and his lady will be having their church wedding next year, but they’re choosing the month of November for reasons which includes the bride’s parents are set to have their vacation in November of next year, as well as her relatives, who are now all based in the U.S. They could have chosen December but it’s simply not possible. Well, as long as the couple is happy and all their loved ones will be able to grace the event, then that’s the most important thing.

Organizing a big event such as weddings can be a hideous task. Simply picking the wedding dress of your choice can be difficult, most especially with the many Wedding Dresses being sold on the market today in so many different designs, not to mention some can really be expensive. But you can actually get one at such a reasonable price at LightInTheBox.com. A variety of wedding dresses, including fabulous designer wedding dresses, are sold at a price that will fit anyone’s budget. And you could save even more if you buy in wholesale where you’ll get a wholesale price that is simply a great bargain. I was actually in awe of the beautiful wedding dresses they’ve got and I’ve included a picture of the wedding dress that I fancy the most. Isn’t it beautiful? Want to see more wedding dresses? Then check the site and be in awe yourself.

Discolored Patches On Your Face

One of my sister's biggest problem are the blotches on her cheeks, known as melasma. Some people would say that it's because of putting so much make-up and not having enough sun protection but my sister is not into make-up though I know she's not putting sunscreen either. But when I read this article on CosmoMag, I knew then that her taking pills for years could have been the reason behind it. Here, read it yourself.

Sounds like melasma, a condition characterized by brownish blotches on the forehead, upper lip, cheeks, or nose. Melasma is thought to be linked to hormone changes, since birth-control pills and pregnancy often trigger it. It may clear up on its own once you go off the pill or give birth, and wearing sunscreen may minimize the pigment changes. But if it sticks around, see your derma - some creams and laser treatments can ease it.

Pool Oh Pool!

The pool at Durian Garden where my son Yogi had his field trip two months ago. It wasn't there yet the first time I visited the place few years ago. The place has few improvements which makes it a nicer place to visit especially by kids because of the mini zoo and of course, this very inviting pool. The kids enjoyed it a lot and so did my son Yogi.

In this very hot weather that we have now, how I wish we have a pool here where I can freshen up and perhaps stay there all day. Hee hee.

A Musician's Chance of a Lifetime!

Amazing talents have emerged in the music industry as of late. Lucky for them to have been given a chance to showcase what they’ve got and share it with the world since not all are given such an opportunity. But there’s good news for those aspiring artists who want to be known and share their God-given talent with the world. Here comes MTV Emerge – a platform for unsigned music talent in the Philippines. It’s a wonderful opportunity for new artists since they will be given the chance to display their talent, not to mention a chance to have a one-year recording contract with Jeepney Music.

This is a joint MTV, Jeepney Music, and Department of Tourism collaboration to find the most deserving individuals that possess great talent from all kinds of music, be it hip hop, rock, R&B, etc. Jeepney Music was created by Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas and is not just a record label - it is an entity of change created to give back to the Philippines and the globe. And The Department of Tourism (DOT) is the Philippine government agency responsible for encouraging, promoting and developing tourism as a major socio-economic activity, spreading its benefits to all sectors of society.

There will be seven grand prize winners for a year contract with Jeepney Music and mentorship under Apl.de.Ap – Jeepney Music’s founder. Voting ends tonight so what are you waiting for? Let your voice be heard and support your Filipino musicians. I voted for “Twisted” by Chilled Mindz Clique. I like the way they fused hip hop and rap, not so fast and the words are understandable, unlike other forms of rap. Time is short so get to hip-hopping now and don’t be left out.

The Wedding Bands

I've talked about my brother Erwin and his long-time girlfriend Karen's wedding HERE and here are their wedding bands. The same wedding band that they will use in their church wedding next year. It's simple yet meaningful. We all can't wait for the big event next year, the event in which they will both say "I Do" again but in the house of God this time and with His blessings.

Congratulations again to the newlyweds!

Pacquiao vs Cotto

Another must-see game by the world's greatest boxer, Manny Pacquiao. The family will watch his game live via satellite at the nearest auditorium here on Sunday, the 15th where the game will be shown for only P150 a ticket. Except me though. I'll just stay here at home and wait for the news. It has always been like that. I just watch the replay all the time. I'm not really a boxing fan and it's only Pacquiao's game that I give myself time to watch.

I do believe that Pacman will bring home the bacon once again and he will be earning $18 Million? I read it on Time magazine and I was like, "Wow!" I Wonder how he's going to spend it. Wish he can give me some. LOL.

Good luck, Pacman!

Music Monday: You're In My Heart by Rod Stewart

The lyrics of this song speak so well of what's inside my heart towards my BA. Wow! Call that super cheesy! LOL. But yes, that's the truth and it was a couple of days ago when my BA reminded me of this song because of what he sent me on SMS. He included the words "heart and soul" in it and since then, I've been humming or singing the song either loudly or silently. Hehe. I even posted its chorus on FB as my status message and I would like to quote what my BA has commented...

And so it's been said, the third time's the charm. And in this instance, the third song is the charm because we now have three special songs that are ours. This one; "You've Got a Friend"; and of most special importance, especially to me......(",), our "special", special song, which truly is "OUR" song----- "Kiss Me". But then again, we've shared many songs, with many more yet to share. And as long as I share them with you, they will all be special.

Happy Music Monday!

Make Your Money Fly Around the “Globe”

E-commerce has come a long way, making people’s lives hassle and worry-free. Things have been made so easy in regard to remittances, including domestic and abroad, online purchases, transactions, payments, etc. And one company who excels when it comes to this service is Globe.

Being a subscriber for years, I am more than satisfied with their services. I’ve used their Globe GCASH to pay for my purchases online many times which I find really convenient since I only have to use my cell phone – one of the reasons why I always see to it that I’m always updated with what’s new with Globe since they’re continually updating and offering new ways to make transactions easier for everyone worldwide. Things such as the following below can be transacted using Globe GCASH:

- domestic and international remittances
- utility bills
- interest and amortization of loans
- insurance premiums
- donations to various institutions and organizations
- sales commissions and payroll disbursements
-school tuition fees
- micro tax payments and business registration
- electronic loads and pins
- online purchases via GCASH Click
- airline tickets

And those are just a few of the many things that Globe offers. Just recently, I’ve learned about the GCASH REMIT which is an excellent tool for OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers). The service provides an easy remittance method for the workers abroad to send money to their loved ones here in the country.

This coming November 12 – 13, 2009, Globe will sponsor the DigitalFilipino E-commerce Summit to be held at Hotel Intercontinental in Makati City. You might want to check that out to be updated with what’s new with Globe or the E-commerce industry as a whole. Don’t be left out. See you there!

"The Weather Outside is Frightful..."

...but inside it's so delightful." As the weather man says on the news, the air’s getting cooler because of the cold front that's moving in. When it gets cold, it signals that Christmas is getting close and I really can’t hide my excitement for it’s my favorite time of the year, and I know I’m not the only one who feels that way.

One thing that makes Christmas more enjoyable, especially for kids, is the gift-giving. I know happiness can’t only be measured through material things, but even a simple gift can be joyous, knowing that it was given wholeheartedly with a warm heart. It’s the thought that counts, after all, and I do believe the $8 Prescription Zenni Glasses would be one of the best gifts you could give this holiday season, not to mention the best bargain, too. So let’s go check on those Holiday fun eyeglasses right away to avoid the Christmas rush and before their new arrivals run out. And avoid that chill in the air by doing your gift chasing online. Enjoy shopping everyone! I know I will.

Robinson's Place GenSan

It was finally opened to the public last October 5 but they had a soft opening a few days before that which was attended by VIPs and the like. The grand opening was attended by VIPs as well (but of course) and a few popular local celebrities like Dawn Zulueta who is Robinson's model, Donita Rose who was the emcee of the program and Christian Bautista who serenaded the people with his amazing voice.

There were hundreds, if not thousands of people who celebrated with the celebrities and VIPs during the opening but I wasn't one of them. I preferred to stay home and just wait for any news. I can't stand long queues. I simply don't have that much patience. Besides, the mall isn't going anywhere. LOL.

I took this picture when we passed by from fetching my niece in school.

There's another angle.

The mall has been open for almost a month now but I only visited the place once. There were still stalls that were not occupied yet and most probably, they'll be occupied by December. So, i'll just go back there once I have more stores to window shop. LOL. See you there!

Play Your Fantasy Role Here

Online games are what my nephews and son are so into at the moment. They wouldn’t even think about doing anything else with their free time, and they even skip their afternoon nap to play. That’s how addicted they are and I can’t really blame them since I’m addicted to online games myself, though we do prefer different games. They’re into war games and those fantasy role playing games while I’m into farming and restaurant games. But boys will be boys.

I do wonder, though, if they’ve played Algadon – a free online RPG. With the many games that they play every single day, I’ve already lost track of what games they enjoy. But knowing them as I do, they’ve probably already got into that one since it’s one of the hottest games online now.
